Trot off that turkey

On Thursday, Nov. 24, at 9 a.m., the thirty-third annual Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot will take place. Thanksgiving morning, runners and walkers alike will bundle up for this 5K.

“I’m excited to bond with my family on the holiday,” said Kelsie Travers, a York alum returning home for break. “The cold isn’t going to stop me from that.”

Don’t worry if you missed early registration, race day registration opens at 6:45 a.m. in the Elmhurst College gymnasium at 221 Walter Street.

The mission of the trot, in honor of Thanksgiving, raises money to feed the hungry. Citizens of Elmhurst unite to participate in this great cause.

“Charity is great and people are going to go home, spend time with their families and enjoy their Thanksgiving dinner,” said Julie Travers, Turkey Trot veteran. “Its a nice way to give back in the morning and to connect with friends.”

The race begins at the intersection of Park Avenue and Adell Place. The course will be blocked off from cars, as the race is entirely in the street.

Onsite parking includes the Elmhurst College main lot, the Larch Avenue parking garage across from the YMCA, and residential street parking. Trolleys will run from 7 a.m. to noon for additional transportation. Locations of the trolleys include: US Bank at York Street and Vallette Street, on Spring Road across from The Silverado Grill, The Spring Inn, and York High School on St. Charles Road.

Join the fun, support a good cause, and get in a good workout this Thursday morning before you pig out with your Thanksgiving dinner.
