Members of the York community “brave the shave” for St. Baldricks. March 2017

On Friday, March 24, many members of the York community shaved their heads to help raise money for childhood cancer. Here are their before and after pictures!

“I think it’s important for students to be involved with an event like St. Baldrick’s because it brings out the best in all of us. One of the most important aspects of growing up is learning how to empathize with others and how to selflessly help other people. Sometimes we can get so focused on tiny details of our own lives that we forget the larger picture–we need to look out for one another.”
Mr. Doherty

“Every two minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer. These are our neighbors, people that were on my daughter’s softball team. I am closing on $20,000 dollars in Kira Spedale’s honor. I don’t want that story to keep repeating. The Baltic scholars are pediatric oncologists completely focused on pediatric cancer the money that is raised most important impact is funding treatments that improve the life of survivors in a huge way.”
-Co-founder Steven Strauss

“As I began planning this event, I became more motivated after students and other staff members, such as Mr. Egan, shared their stories about how cancer has affected their families. These stories have brought the York community closer together, and I look forward to working with my fellow Dukes to raise money for childhood cancer research for years to come.”
-Mr. O’Malley

“My mom had breast cancer ten years ago and I’d do anything that I can to give back to people who are fighting cancer.”
-Mr. Maguire

“I feel like a peacock without feathers, still flauntin’ though.”
