York is a music friendly school with a lot to offer to each student. However, there are some students who take it upon themselves to make their music into a reality and show the world what they can do.

A new group of musicians has surfaced on York’s flourishing music scene, and they are known as Stonewall Jackson and the Basement Fighters.

“We actually got the inspiration [for the name] from the Quentin Tarantino movie Inglorious Bastards,” said senior Jake Pardue, the band’s lead singer who referenced the famous scene from the film: ‘Well, you don’t gotta be Stonewall Jackson to know you don’t want to fight in a basement.”

They are a fairly large band, with six musicians, including a pianist, senior Ethan Kett, a guitarist, senior RJ Nelson, a lead singer, Pardue, a drummer, senior Jordan Ciccarone, a bassist, senior Patrick Taylor and making them somewhat unique, a designated tambourinist, senior Kevin Taeyaerts.

“It [the tambourine] keeps the beat and adds a little flair and consistency,” said Nelson.

They have been together for almost a year now and have been performing music for around three months.  This year, their gigs include an Amateur Musicians concert in York Commons and most recently, they joined several other York bands for a concert at Fitz’s Spare Keys in downtown Elmhurst.

Several York music fans were in attendance and enjoyed the show.

¨They had character, “ said senior Jack Rodgers. ¨Jake, the lead singer, did all the talking and had some goofy things to say. They looked like they were having fun.

They also have an upcoming show at the Knights of Columbus on Nov. 13 along with other York groups.
