The varsity boys’ golf team show off their second place trophy after their win.

On Oct. 4, the boys’ varsity golf team won their Lake Park Regional tournament for the second year in a row.

After receiving second place at their conference tournament to division powerhouse Hinsdale Central, the boys pulled through to win regionals and are now looking forward to going to sectionals and then state.

“Because we were second in our conference, that makes us better that 95% of the teams,” said Mr. Borel, the varsity team coach. “And then there’s Hinsdale Central. Just the fact that we got second is even better than winning the whole tournament.”

Led by seniors Tom Manning, Mitch Russell, Kyle Kubycheck, Jake Cznerik, and Mark Leali, the team pulled ahead of the rest and won their regional tournament. The team is now headed to sectionals next Monday.

“We have sectionals next week and there are some pretty tough teams in there but we have a chance going forward,” said senior captain Tom Manning.

The boys will bring their all to try to win sectionals and even state.

“Let’s put it this way: we don’t get on the bus unless we think we’re gonna win,” said Mr. Borel. “We talk about it often. In golf, you can’t play defense. Our kids work really hard to get as far as we have, and we’re expecting to make it even farther.”

The frosh team also had a successful season, finishing the year second in conference, a step up from third place last year.
