Boys basketball hopes to start with a slam dunk
York Boys Basketball is kicking off another season today, Fri. Dec. 2, at Glenbard West where the Dukes will fight for the ‘W’ against the Hilltoppers.
When it comes to being an athlete, there seems to be no off-season. The players say they have been preparing for the 2016-2017 basketball season for months.
“We had a summer league where we played over forty games in one month,” said senior Mark McGovern.
The team is expecting to have a great season and they are even hoping to win regionals. The boys, over their summer season, learned so many new skills to help them win as much as possible in their upcoming season here at school.
“Compared to last year, this team is much more skilled offensively,” said junior Henry Judge.
Despite losing nine senior players this past season, the new team is focused on working their hardest to look even better than last year. The coaches have put together a new team that they believe will be successful throughout their 2016-2017 basketball season.
“Our team is made up of three seniors, seven juniors, and four sophomores,” said head coach Vince Doran.
Be sure to come out and support the Dukes at their first game of the season on Fri. Dec. 2 at Glenbard West at 7:30 p.m. as they play to defeat the Hilltoppers!
