York predicts CFB Playoff
Week 12 was a crazy week in college football. Going in, five teams remained undefeated (1 Alabama, 2 Clemson, 3 Michigan, 4 Washington and 21 Western Michigan). However, three out of the top four teams lost–making Alabama and Western Michigan the only teams yet to lose. With that, we went around York asking students who they thought would make the final playoff of just four teams.
York seems to be very one sided for the first two spots, Alabama followed by Michigan. However, with the next two spots, it was very wishy washy; five different teams were projected to be the number three side. Eight teams with very similar percentages were also chosen for the number four seed. Follows is the pie chart of each of the seed as predicted.
Ninety three perecent of York students surveyed had Alabama as their number one seed in the playoff. Alabama currently sits as the number one team in the CFP Rankings, and at 12-0, they are the only team that remains undefeated. The only other team that received a vote for number one from York students was Clemson.
Michigan received the biggest percentage of votes at 60% then Clemson, who got 26%, and lastly both Ohio State and Louisville each received about 6%.
Students predicted Clemson for the number three spot, where they got 40% of votes. A close second for this spot was Washington, who received 33% of votes. Michigan also received 13% of votes. Lastly, Ohio State and Louisville each got about 6% of votes.
Although the number four spot drew the the widest vareity of predictions, the front runner was Washington, who got 33% of votes. Next up was Louisville who received 26%. And lastly 4 teams each received about 6% of votes, these teams were Clemson, Wisconsin, Penn State and LSU.
Going into conference championship weekend with some heavy hitters facing off for almost a guaranteed bid to the playoff, Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, and Washington round out the top four. The first three out are Michigan, Wisconsin and Penn State. The most anticipated game of the weekend, the Big Ten Championship has some strings attached to it. Although the Ohio State and Michigan both are higher seeds 2 and 5 respectively, they will not be fighting for the highly coveted Big Ten Championship. The 6 seed, Wisconsin will face off against the 7 seed Penn State. This game went down to the wire and Penn State with a big stop late in the game sealed the deal for the championship.
Just this last weekend, the College Football Selection Committee came out and released the Playoff Bracket for this year. The matchups are #1 Alabama vs #4 Washington and #2 Clemson vs #3 Ohio State. This means that the majority of York correctly picked 3 out of the 4 teams in the playoff, those teams being #1 Alabama, #3 Clemson and #4 Washington. In the end York’s majority had Michigan as their #2 seed, and Clemson as the #3 seed, whereas Clemson filled the #2 spot and Michigan lost their spot to Ohio State because of the result of their head to head matchup.
