Welcome to the second edition of the York-hi food column: the Yum Factor. In this edition, I will be reviewing a restaurant in the North Side of Chicago called Miller’s Pub. It is located multiple palces: on Wabash Avenue close to the train station, Millennium Park, and the river. The restaurant has been visited by celebrities such as Haray Caray, Jay Leno, and Frank Sinatra. It serves up a wide variety of excellent dishes, mostly staples of Greek, Italian, and American fare.

For the appetizers, my family ordered two standard seafood plates: fried calamari and shrimp cocktail. The fried calamari is a favorite of mine, rings of squid battered and fried, served with a lemon wedge and Cocktail sauce. The calamari was well seasoned and tender, with a crispy breading, and paired well with the characteristic searing horseradish in the sauce and the acidity of the lemon. The shrimp cocktail was served in a large glass with ice, cocktail sauce, and the beautiful chilled shrimp on the rim. With a little lemon and sauce, the shrimp was delicious- not fishy at all.

With my dinner, I decided to order a side caesar salad, with creamy dressing and peppery croutons topped with shaved Parmesan cheese. For a side order, it was quite filling in my opinion, which is definitely not a bad thing.

For dinner, I ordered the deluxe Steak sandwich. It came served on garlic bread with mozzarella, arugula, sliced tomatoes, a pickle spear, a hint of horseradish, and both french fries and coleslaw on the side. The steak was juicy and well prepared, but made the bread quite soggy. Another thing I will add is that the mozzarella was heavily added and could have been toned down a bit.

Overall, I enjoyed both the food and the ambiance of Miller’s, and I thought that the staff were very accommodating and the booth seating was comfortable. If you enjoy watching Chicago sports, especially if you are a Cubs fan, there are several TVs and a lot of memorabilia on the walls.

My overall rating on the Yum Scale for my experience and the food I ate would be a 9/10. I would definitely recommend Miller’s for anyone visiting that part of the city, but I will caution that it is often very crowded on nights of sports games.
