Staff prevails in senior vs. staff volleyball game

On Feb. 22, seniors went head to head with the staff during the annual Senior vs. Staff Volleyball game. The game had lots of high energy with a competitive nature. Although the seniors worked hard, the staff prevailed and took the victory.

Before the game, seniors were very confident in their winning abilities. Last year, the seniors took home a win and they hoped to start a winning streak.

“Mr. Fisher couldn’t serve over the net so I’m not worried about the game,” senior Dylan Kalchik said.

Although the seniors lost the first match, they won the second match. Their confidence did not transfer to their abilities, and the staff won the third match, winning the game.

On the other hand, the staff’s faith in their volleyball skills proved effective.

“I have no experience in volleyball; I’m just that good,” Mr. Niemeier said.

The staff’s determination, as demonstrated by Mr. Niemier, is what helped them win the game. In fact, Mr. Niemier was a key player in the staff’s success. Other members on staff shared similar confidence.

Team Captains finish the smack talk between the Staff and Seniors the day of the game.

“We play smart, they play dumb like all students do,” Mr. Carillo said.

Mr. Carillo’s remarks turned out to be true as the staff won the majority of the matches. After losing the second match the staff came back harder. The third match was nail biter.

“We let them have the second game; they were looking emotionally down. Then we let them stick with us a little bit in the third game, but we had to win so that way they’d learn their place,” Mr. Niemier said.

Mr. Niemier put the seniors in their place after winning the game, putting an end to the smack talk between the two sides. Now that the competition between the two sides is over, the Staff claim the victory. Until next year! Go Dukes.

“We bumped and set the seniors straight,” said Mrs. Fitzgerald.
