Boys Track and Field: mid-season update

Boys Track and Field 2017 varsity team.

With the York Boys Track and Field indoor season coming to an end, the York-hi spoke with a few runners and throwers to see how their 2017 indoor season went and what they look forward to for their 2017 outdoor season.

The team had shown improvement from their 2016 season to their 2017 season––taking fifth place at the indoor conference in 2016, to taking fourth place at the indoor conference in 2017. Not only did the team as a whole do well, but so did specific athletes.

“This year I won shot put at the indoor season conference by two feet,” said senior Cal Widener.

With the weather sporadically getting nicer, the track teams are moving their practices and meets outside–which some players enjoy and others do not.

“I prefer the outdoor season,” said varsity runner Charlie Kern, junior. “I hate the tight curves of the indoor track.”

Due to the successful indoor season, the boys anticipate an equally, if not more, successful outdoor season.

“There’s a lot of pressure and expectations to win with the success in the past and that only makes us more determined to prove ourselves,” said junior Sean MacGregor.
