Jackson Lukas elected Freshman Class President
Last week, the Freshmen class took to the voting polls and elected Jackson Lukas as the Freshman Class President. In the spring, sophomores, juniors, and seniors elect their class president for the following school year; however, it isn’t until the fall that freshman appoint their leader.
This fall, three freshmen from Student Council entered the presidential race. In the end, only one student could win: Jackson Lukas.
“I feel thrilled about winning the election,” Lukas said. “I plan to make sure that all freshman can speak their mind. I want people to be able to contact me so that they can get their ideas across to Student Council.”
A major part of Lukas’s presidency is making sure people from his class have more of a voice. He wants his peers to be able to express their opinion and make suggestions to York.
“I think people voted for me because they know me,” Lukas said. “I’ve been involved in many activities in the past where I have gotten to meet lots of people in my class.”
Besides being a member of Student Council, Jackson is a part of Key Club, Math Team, and soccer. His diverse involvement around the school allows more students to know and feel more comfortable with who he is.
“I voted for Jackson because I trust him to do a good job as President,” freshman Frank Temple said. “He’s always been a good kid and people know that.”
Jackson has had plenty of experience with Student Council, making him a reliable candidate. He has been in Student Council all throughout elementary and middle school. Although, York Student Council has seemed to be a very different experience.
“I’ve really enjoyed Student Council at York,” Lukas said. “We get lots more done because we meet four out of five days of the week. There are also committees with only three to four people in them, which makes you feel like a big, important part of the school.”
So far this year, Jackson has contributed to the spirit week and lunchtime activities during Homecoming Week, and recently he’s raised awareness for brain cancer.
“We’re really excited for Jackson,” said Student Council Sponsor Mr. Moran. “We know that he’s going to work very hard with the rest of the year and that he will do a great job on new exciting projects.”
Jackson Lukas is looking forward to the rest of the year and having a bigger role in his class and, overall, the school.
“I can’t wait to work with people to make my freshman class the best ever!” Lukas said.
