New sounds from the Music Department
New technology and returning clubs in the music department are hoping to fuel students creativity. This year the music department has received brand new Mac desktops as well as entirely up-to-date versions of digital audio workshops Logic Pro X and GarageBand, giving students a completely professional music lab.
“The new computers and software updates will allow us to work with the latest versions of GarageBand and Logic Pro. Logic Pro is one of the most powerful and intuitive music production applications on the planet.” said Mr. Pavlik, performing arts teacher.
“The latest versions of these two programs are a perfect fit for the music production curriculum Mr. Gemkow has designed in our 3 levels of music production classes at York,” Pavlik said.
These updates are the ideal match for boosting student creativity. In addition, Performing Arts teacher Mr. Gemkow is encouraging any student with a passion for music to join a club in the music department.
“Anyone with a love of music should join a club,” Gemkow said.
The Performing Arts Department offers a variety of clubs, depending on a student’s area of interest.
“If you love music just as a listener, there’s the Record Club. If you want to learn how to play music, there’s Amateur Musicians Club, and if you’re really interested in putting together a whole week’s worth of artistic events, Fine Arts Week Committee is another extracurricular you could join,” said Gemkow.
“Any of these clubs are perfect for the student that isn’t enrolled in the traditional music programs at York. Amateur Musicians Club is also planning on doing one in house performance every quarter with one community performance as well.”
