Brawny Dukes bring bold mentality to King of the Couch
Perhaps when you hear the word “brawny,” you may think of the paper towel brand or even the idea of strength. But one king of the couch group is bringing a sense of Duke spirit to the word as the Brawny Dukes.
Seniors Luigi Allegrini, Chris Eckard, Ian Williams, and Santino Domingo can be seen around the halls sporting red flannels, short shorts and Timberlands as one of the seven eager couch groups this year. Their unique theme evokes motivation and passion.
“Being brawny isn’t just about being strong physically, but mentally at the same time,” Allegrini said.
Their multiple perspectives on the word brawny represent their group’s motto: don’t be scrawny, be brawny.
Additionally, the group enjoys a strong friendship as they have known each other for years and encourage other groups of friends to form King of the Couch groups.
“These been my boys since I was young,” Allegrini said. “Just get you and your friends, and have fun.”
So far, the group has been spreading the brawny spirit around York which was specifically memorable on freshmen day.
“Freshmen day was a really nice experience,” Allegrini said. “We met a lot of new, nice kids coming into the school. We’re just happy to be leaders and guide them in the right direction for the next four years.”
York freshmen also feel the Brawny spirit.
“They just walk around the halls playing music, and I think that’s cool,” freshman Rylee Adams said. “They high five us when we’re walking.”
Similarly, teachers are getting in touch with their brawny side in support of the Brawny Dukes.
“[The Brawny Dukes have] a lot of energy,” Mr. Dowdy said. “They want to make York great again, especially athletics. If I had to rank my top three right now, they’d be in.”
In leading the next generation of Dukes, the Brawny Dukes suggest students be themselves and enjoy their time at York.
“ Do what you want to do,” Williams said. “Who cares how you look? Who cares what other people say? Be a leader.”
