Shockey shines in varsity basketball home opener

On Friday, Dec. 6, the York Dukes Varsity Basketball squad took on the Lyons Township Lions in this season’s home opener. Following a defense filled first quarter, the Dukes trailed 7-4. However, two surges in the second and fourth quarters brought the Dukes within three points with just seven seconds remaining on the clock. The Dukes coach, Vince Doran, called a time out to draw an inbound play that would hopefully send the game to overtime. Off the inbounds play, with just 5.2 seconds left senior Nate Shockey hit a step-back three to tie the game sending it to overtime. The Dukes dominated the Lions in overtime, outscoring them 12-2, finishing off their first conference win 51-41. Shockey finished the game with 26 points.
