Boys Golf makes it to State after 50 years
For the first time in 50 years the York boys golf team made it to state as a team. At state they finished 8th.
“Our golfers did a great job at the state meet and throughout the season” said Varsity Coach Mr. Borel.
The team has seen great success this season they came in third in their conference, which is one of the toughest conference in the state.
The top two performers for York at Conference were juniors, Jordan Less, scoring 69 and Frank Wheatland scoring, 72.
Their record for the season on Varsity was 6-3. One of those wins was against Lyons Township on their own course, a huge upset for, Lyon Township as they are a ranking team but quite the victory for York.
After conference they had their sectional on Tuesday, October 7th and scored in the top three which allowed them to move on to sectionals.
At sectionals they saw more success and qualified for state. It is the first time time the boys golf team is advancing to state since 1964.
“I’m really proud of what we accomplished this season, our goal was to make it to state and we achieved it!” said Varsity Captain Chris Gieb. “Our golfers did a great job at the state meet and throughout the season. This is a huge accomplishment for the golf team and we congratulate them on an outstanding season!”
