Introducing York’s 2020 Class Presidents
September 30, 2020
From pajama drives to Prom, York’s class presidents keep busy throughout the year as they direct their grade level’s Student Council representatives to complete community service projects and activities within the York community. As voted by their peers, here are York’s 2020 Class Presidents.
Sophomore Class President: Avery Kendrick
TIY: What made you want to run for class president?
Kendrick: “I wanted to run for Sophomore class president this year because I think it’s super important to keep up our school spirit and unite as a class during this time of uncertainty, and I love being able to communicate with students and the community through StuCo.”
TIY: What do you hope to accomplish this year as class president?
Kendrick: “I hope to find more ways to connect as a school community virtually as well as working together to ease the transition into hybrid learning and more in-person events.”
TIY: What’s something that you would like your class to know about you?
Kendrick: “I want them to know that I can’t wait to hear their input as we start to get back into a more typical school routine, and I’m excited to represent them this year!”
Junior Class President: Yash Singh
TIY: What made you want to run for class president?
Singh: “Well, I wanted to run for class president because I wanted to voice the opinions of my fellow classmates. There are many different ideas others can offer that can truly benefit the class of 2022, and I loved the idea of having the opportunity to listen to them and get them going! Furthermore, junior year can be a very stressful time for many; with the amount of work in our classes and beginning to think about life after high school. I wanted to help others out, and ensure they felt good about school. Overall, I just wanted to make a positive impact.”
TIY: What do you hope to accomplish this year as class president?
Singh: “This year being Junior Class President, there are many things that I want to do. First, I want to make students feel comfortable in their new working environments, and ultimately motivate everyone to do their best. Also, this will be our first year to attend prom. When the time comes, I hope to collaborate with other members in Student Council and create one of the best dances the class of 2022 has been to.”
TIY: What’s something that you would like your class to know about you?
Singh: “Something I would like my classmates to know about me is that I’m super outgoing. I put myself out there, and try to make the best of any situation. I love to meet new people all the time, and learn more about them as well.”
Senior Class President: Olivia Ross
TIY: What made you want to run for class president?
Ross: “I wanted to run for class president so that I could have my voice make an impact on the school and to also listen to what my peers have to say. I believe that the role of class president offers the opportunity to make sure that all voices are heard in response to any question about York.”
TIY: What do you hope to accomplish this year as class president?
Ross: “My goal for the 2020-2021 school year is to ensure that the senior class is able to enjoy this year to the fullest even with these odd circumstances. I also hope that as your class president I can make sure that our graduation this spring is nothing short of extraordinary and that we all get full recognition at graduation as well.”
TIY: What’s something that you would like your class to know about you?
Ross: “Something that I’d like everyone in my class to know about me, is that I am very excited to have been selected as this year’s senior class president. I can’t wait to listen to what everyone has to say and hopefully implement some of those changes here at York.”
Though school looks a bit different this Fall, there is no doubt that this year’s Class Presidents will give their all to overcome any challenge and attempt to make this year one of the best in York history.
