York students excited for the Bulls 2014-2015 season
Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls are back and on the hunt to win a championship this 2014-2015 season. Many York students are looking forward to watching the Bulls this year, especially with new additions to the team and a healthy Derrick Rose back in action.
The Eastern Conference is filled with talent this year, but senior Kyle Coughlin expects that the Bulls can outshine the other fifteen teams come playoff time.
“The Bulls will be a top seed in the East. They have the potential to win a championship,” said Coughlin.
Chicago’s talent and depth may set them apart from any other Eastern Conference team, but senior Chris Geib said LeBron and his Cavs, “Will be the only threat for the Bulls this season.”
During the off season, after failing to lure in Carmelo Anthony to Chi City, the Bulls acquired forward-center Pau Gasol from the LA Lakers in free agency.
Bulls fan Nikki Andriacchi says, “We don’t need Melo, he is a ball hog anyway.” Many Bulls fans were satisfied with the back up plan to get Gasol. “He is going to be unstoppable on defense since he is a big guy, he will be making big blocks and rebounds,” said Andriacchi.
The Bulls’ upper management also added small forward Doug Mcdermott from Creighton to boost the offense, something the team noticeably lacked last season.
“Doug is just what we need for our offense, he is a great shooter and over all great player,” said Geib. “I am excited to see him play throughout the season.”
While the additions of new players will help the Bulls in their hunt to win it all, or at least come close, is arguably all up to Derrick Rose and his health.
“It is extremely important that Rose stays healthy during the season, especially come playoffs when things get intense,” said Coughlin.
The all-star point guard is a key piece to the Bulls rotation and threat to other teams, but missing most of the season last year do to knee injuries will he find he be the Drose we were used to back when he won MVP?
“[Rose] will find his groove and be more comfortable on the court game after game. I have confidence he will return, for good,” said Andriacchi.
With new additions, the return of a superstar point guard, and a tough aggressive Chicago Bulls team, York students are looking forward to the long 62+ game journey, in hopes of confetti and a golden trophy at the end.
