“Don’t Worry Darling” finishes filming while fans await trailer

March 9, 2021

A few weeks ago, “Don’t Worry Darling” joined Hollywood’s long list of anticipated films. The film, which was temporarily halted back in November due to a positive COVID-19 case, finally wrapped its filming on Feb. 13. Stacked with some of Hollywood’s most talented actors such as Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Kiki Layne and Chris Pine, fans are eager for any sneak peeks of the film as a trailer has yet to be released.

Directed by Olivia Wilde, “Don’t Worry Darling” brings to life the psychological thriller screenplay written by Katie Silberman and Carey and Shane Van Dyke. Set in an isolated 1950’s California desert community, Florence Pugh will play the role of domestic housewife, Alice, who begins to question her own sanity after noticing strange occurrences in her town. Singer and actor Harry Styles will play Jack, her seemingly loving husband who is actually hiding a dark secret.

Styles and Pugh, who play a married couple in the movie, are seen in costume in front of a 1950’s style house on the set. Pugh expressed her excitement after Styles’ role was confirmed in an Instagram story. “So excited to have you on board! @harrystyles,” she said. (Photo courtesy of popsugar.com)

“I am so excited for ‘Don’t Worry Darling’, especially because of Harry Styles,” junior Abby Thomas said. “I am a huge fan and I am really excited to see him in another movie working with a ton of other really talented people. I heard he also wrote a song for this movie, so I can’t wait to see it!”

While not much has been revealed regarding the film itself, cast members have taken to social media to comment on the process of filming throughout last year and working with one another.

“It’s official, it’s a wrap!” Florence Pugh said in an Instagram post on Feb. 14. “Yesterday was our final day on the set of ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ and I wanted to give you all some insight on who this movie is- these are some of the people who made this movie happen. The grips, the gaffer, the electrics, set PA’s, sound mixer, prop masters…This list goes on and on…Despite these new shooting restrictions and guidelines, I can’t tell you how energized these people in my photos have been…every single person delivered their A game and it’s the many long list of names like those above and in the credits at the end of movies that actually get this hard, messy, fun weird job done. So, one final thank you to this amazing crew.”

Wilde, who will also play a supporting role on top of directing the film, has similarly praised her co-stars and production team via social media. With over eight posts dedicated to her team, Wilde has thanked members in front of and behind the cameras, such as cinematographer Matty Libatique, costume designer Arianne Phillips and leading actress Florence Pugh.

“To work with an actor as talented and brave as Florence Pugh is any director’s dream,” Wilde said in a captioned photo of her and Pugh hugging. “I will forever be grateful for you, Flo. It was an honor to be your captain. Can’t wait for the world to see the astonishing work you’ve put into this movie…”

Acknowledgement of film and production crews in Hollywood usually only goes as far as the credits at the end of a movie, as Pugh mentioned in her Instagram post. However, by filling fans in on all the hard work that goes into the process of creating a film, especially one during the COVID-19 pandemic, well known cast members have been able to garner more appreciation for the great minds behind the camera.

Wilde also posted an appreciation post for Libatique saying, “We were linked by a determination to achieve what always seemed impossible, and I could not be more proud of what we accomplished…I live to make you proud, Matty. Thank you for believing in me.” (Photo courtesy of Instagram)

“I think it is really important that cast members are providing the production crew with greater recognition,” senior Emma Garvey said. “I don’t think that many people take time to read all the names in the credits at the end of movies, so I think it is really nice that they are doing this. As a fan, it is cool to see all the work that goes into making a film that I otherwise wouldn’t know much about. I feel like some of the best movies are ones where the cast and crew work well together and appreciate each other’s contributions, so I think this movie is going to be really good!”

With the movie’s filming finally complete, the anticipation of fans is only growing. Even though “Don’t Worry Darling” is set to have a 2021 release date, many speculate they won’t get to see the movie until the end of the year. On the bright side, fans have something to look forward to in the coming months.

“I am always checking to see if there is any new news about this movie on social media,” Thomas said. “I can’t wait for the trailer to come out. I’m really excited to see what this group of talented people can do!”
