Do you know the official name of the Math Lab? How about when it was established and who established it?
There’s a lot of things that people don’t know about the Math Lab despite visiting A263 at least once. Here are a couple of interesting facts that people don’t know:
The Math Lab’s actual name is the Thomas H. Nelson Lab.
It was named after the former and beloved Math Department Chair, Thomas H. Nelson.
Nelson taught from 1965-1991 (and even taught some of our alumni teachers!).
The Math Lab existed even before York was renovated.
The old Math Lab was half the size of the current Math Lab.
The Math Lab is now open Monday-Friday from 7:00PM -4:15PM
It used to be closed on Fridays but due to the increase of students seeking help they extended the days.
The Math Lab gives out awards to seniors every spring to recognize them for not just helping themselves improve, but also other students and teachers.
The award is called the Del Meitz Thomas Nelson Award–they even give some scholarship money for the award.
