This fall Lexie and Lila Bennis are both playing for the Girls Varsity Volleyball Team, A unique circumstance given that the Bennis sisters have a three year age gap; Lexie is a senior and Lila is a freshman.
Lexie’s experience has been positive; she has been able to meet many different girls. She’s enjoyed being able to play against competitive teams which has ultimately made her a better player when it comes to school and travel. Lexie is getting the chance to play with her sister Lila. They have both been playing volleyball since they were kids. Lexie is excited to get the opportunity to play with her little sister Lila. This will be their first time stepping on the court together.
“I feel like being the younger sister, I always looked up to her so when she joined, I started getting into it too. As time went on, I started to enjoy it more and more and compared to other sports, it was a lot more exciting,” Lila said.
This will be the first year both sisters are on the same team. Lexie and Lila are both really enjoying playing together. They both feel like it’s a unique opportunity to be on the same high school team because most siblings aren’t able to do it.
“I really enjoy being on a team with her. I think it’s a really cool experience because not many people get to be on the same team as their sibling, especially with our age gap. It wasn’t something that was guaranteed and I didn’t think it was going to happen. So being able to play with her is very exciting,” Lila Bennis said.
Lexie and Lila are both enjoying playing varsity volleyball. They have had a great season so far, and with conference just around the corner, the girls have been giving it their all. They are looking forward to getting better everyday in hopes of making the playoffs.
“Everyone wants to win so it’s a good community of girls, brought together through the love of the sport, and you’re able to make new friendships,” Lexie said.
This season, Lexie’s goal is to create good relationships with her teammates. She hopes they can win and go far in the season. She is also looking forward to making fun memories she can look back on. Lila’s goal is to get to the payoffs and go far in them. She also wants to get closer with her teammates, improve her skills and get better as a player.
“Everyone on the team is competitive so it makes practices hard and pushes everyone to get better for the team,” Lexie said.
