Previous decisions in the off season have indicated that the Chicago Bears are looking to do a complete 180 from last season. With the draft taking place later tonight, many are wondering what’s on the horizon for the team. This season they went 5-12 with their new rookie QB, Caleb Williams, but there were a lot of promising things seen. The obvious offensive line and coaching problems looked like they could be fixed with new improved coaching and free agency, since they were top 5 in cap space this offseason. So that’s exactly what they did.
The Bears started by replacing head coach Matt Eberflues with offensive coordinator from the Lions, Ben Johnson, who brought former tight end coach for the Broncos Declan Doyle, to be our offensive coordinator, and brought previous head coach of the Saints Dennis Allen, to be our defensive coordinator. All very good pickups and a totally new coaching staff just like that. Johnson also has the smartest offensive mind in the NFL, and is a major upgrade to our biggest problem, offensive play calling. Ryan Poles, the Bears GM then decided to make some big moves in free agency. Poles has been remaking this Bears team for years, and has made us winners of the offseason for the past three years now. When free agency opened up, he started by picking up 3 new offensive lineman, all very solid, with one of them being a four-time Superbowl champion Joe Thuney. Williams was sacked 68 times last season, and Poles just gave him exactly what he needed, time in the pocket. After the offensive line was set, Poles moved to upgrade the defense, and after all his moves in Free Agency, the Bears are looking elite for next season. Bears fans are the happiest we’ve been since our great 2018 season, and this season hasn’t started yet. Although they look better than ever, they still need to prove it in the regular season.
“The bears have made some fantastic improvements but also need to prove it on the field, offseason champs 2023, 2024, 2025,” Joshua Wolski, junior and Bears fan said.
It seems to be popular opinion that the Bears have won the offseason once again. In addition to the affirmed pickups, Poles made some moves for the defensive line, our second weakest area of the team. He brought in Dayo Odeyingobo, a young edge rusher from the Colts with good potential, and Grady Jarrett, a veteran D-Tackle from the Falcons that is a great leader for our young DT’s like Gervon Dexter. Even though our record has not shown it, we filled the holes in our team and are finally in a really good position to win.
“With the Bears off to a fresh start after getting top free agents in the market, they will be a team to watch in the upcoming season,” junior Huzaifa Chandabhai said.
People say we say this every year, but this year we truly have improved our biggest needs, not only on the field, but the coaching as well. We are more justified than ever to be really hopeful for the season coming up. Not only this season, but the team’s future has never looked brighter, with many young stars and talent, a high draft pick, and a few more good picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, we have built a very talented team and still a lot more young talent to get before the season even starts. Hopefully we are not let down again after another successful offseason, but Bears fans haven’t had this much hype in a while.
“The reason the Bears will be in the Super Bowl 2026 is because they have a new head coach that knows what he’s doing and will cook up for Caleb Williams,” junior Adrian Gesicki said. “He has already made amazing moves with the O-line to protect Williams and once we get Ashton Jeanty in the draft we will have even more playmakers on the field.”
