Elmhurst College grad appears on American Idol
Gina Venier, a 2012 Elmhurst College Grad, has been appearing Thursday nights on the hit reality singing competition show American Idol. Venier, who studied broadcasting, won the hearts of American Idol judges through her voice, guitar skills, drum skills, and lyrics.
Venier is not just amazing at music; she is an amazing person in general.
“She is absolutely fantastic and one of the nicest girls I’ve ever met,” said Ms. Schroeder, an AP US History/Social Studies teacher at York. “She is a very multitalented person.”
After graduating from Elmhurst College, Venier decided to focus on her music, which has clearly paid off. Gina’s passion for music started at the age of six, especially when she learned how to play drums. Her style consists of a mix of genres, mostly pop and R&B, according to the Chicago Tribune.
“Anywhere you saw her she would always be singing,” said Ms. Schroeder. “She would also post videos on social media.”
Venier has also had previous experience performing and being judged. She has performed in Chicago at Cubby Bear, a famous Cubs sports bar. Two years ago at Duffy’s Tavern and Grille, Venier competed along with 600 contenders, in a vocal competition called Bar 1’s Big Break and won top honor.
She has now moved up to the next round and feels grateful for the opportunity. Gina also thanks her dad, who is also a musician, for supporting her.
