Practice is not the only thing that goes on behind the scenes in order to make your fall Friday nights spectacular. York Football not only prides itself on the accomplishments they have on the field, but off of the field as well.

York’s Football team is an excellent example of a team that excels in academics. With many students with stellar grades, York Football is making a statement on and off the field.

Coach Monken also believes  that academics play a crucial role in the lives of a student-athlete.

“I think that’s the thing that gets missed from athletes is how much time these student athletes put into the classroom and how much time they put into their academics,” said Head Coach Matthew Monken. “Many of our players have an above 4.0 GPA.”

Teachers are not  the only ones who believe that academics are important.

“Excelling in academics is crucial to having a good football career,” said wide receiver Matthew Riecker. “Keeping up with work teaches us how to balance time with the busy schedule of football. It is important to keep up and stay on top of school to also excel on the field.”

Next time you make your way to the Duke’s Stadium and prepare to cheer on your favorite football team to victory, know that much more goes on behind the scenes than meets the eye. Next Friday, when you are cheering on the Dukes, don’t only cheer for the accomplishments on the field, but off of the field as well.
