York Cross Country declared victorious in the Meatheads Burger Battle

Come nine o’clock on the Monday of October 5th, Meatheads, despite it being the closing time, was still packed with people. Football players were buying two “Monocle Marches” at once, and cross country runners inhaled “The Starting Line” after their practice. When an athlete left the establishment, they were immediately replaced by another. Both teams were rushing to either pull ahead or maintain their lead.

Despite the pom, cheer, and football teams’ efforts, the cross country team’s burger, “The Starting Line,” beat their burger, “The Monocle March,” in a landslide victory with cross country winning by over 200 burgers.

Although the loss of “The Monocle March” was devastating to the respected teams, York is not without victory. The cross country teams received 10% of the total sales. They’re splitting the prize between the girls’ and boys’ teams, and, considering the staggering amount of burgers sold, it’s no surprise that the teams have big plans for their award money.

The boys’ team is planning on using it for their coaches’ gifts.

Group Five Captain Sam Field said, “We go big for the coaches each year. Because we won all this money, we can go even bigger. I don’t want to give away what we’re getting them, but I think it’s some of the best ideas we’ve ever had.”

The girls’ team isn’t sure exactly what they’re going to do, but they certainly have some ideas.

“I don’t know who gets to decide how we use the money,” said Allie Wolfe, the girls’ cross country member who helped design the burger. “I think we should use it for more uniforms though. We’ve got some girls wearing really old uniforms because there aren’t enough for everyone. Either that or more pasta parties.”

Overall, the Meatheads Burger Battle proved to be an effective fundraiser for York athletics. Hopefully the money raised will help improve the York Cross Country teams and increase the spirit and support of the York Athletics Department overall.
