Cross Country state recap
On Saturday, November 7, both cross country teams departed for Detweiller park in Peoria, IL for state finals. York High School is well known for its long line of successful runners creating an environment of anticipation and excitement for the Dukes. The girls team finished in 22nd place lead by Elizabeth Hagstrom who individually placed 29th. The boys team initially tied with Neuqua Valley for 3rd place but a tie goes to a tie-breaker between the team’s 6th runner. Unfortunately, the trophy went the Neuqua Valley leaving the team without one. However, the meet was by no means a total defeat. The team was lead by Charlie Kern who displayed an impressive performance taking 2nd place overall with a three mile time of 14:22, only two seconds behind the individual champion. In an interview with Dyestat after the race he said that while he was a bit disappointed that the team wasn’t able to bring back a trophy, he was still happy with the way he ran. With three sophomores running on this team as well, the future looks bright for the cross country team of York High School.
