York Speech Team places first at Ram Yam
This weekend, the York Speech Team headed over to Reavis High School to compete at the famous “Ram Yam” tournament.
This tournament holds a special place in the team’s heart; not only is it a very fun and happy tournament, but York has a winning reputation to uphold.
The team entered the school on a snowy Saturday morning with the desire for a “three-peat,” and left with just that. This year marks the third consecutive year that the team has placed first overall as a team.
There were many competitors that placed this weekend — those were:
Alexis Olson: 1st in Humorous Interpretation

John Eboli and Ellie Ryan: Top novice in Dramatic Duet Acting
Senior Jack Wiesenmayer, who placed second in Impromptu Speaking, was thrilled with his placing.
“I felt a sense of fulfillment that my hard work finally paid off,” said Wiesenmayer.
“When you break you feel so many emotions, you can’t help but smile,” said Leena Lukose, freshman, who placed 6th in Informative Speaking.
Even the competitors that didn’t place played a role in securing the third consecutive win at the Ram Yam, earning points that were added to the team’s overall score.
The team has been doing consistently well thus far, and the future is looking bright for them. Many competitors are placing, and the team seems to be only moving forward.
“The Ram Yam was a testament to the kind of team we have built. We have improved so much since even the first tournament, and so this season is shaping up to be a success in many ways,” said senior team captain, Sheila Evans.
While the team will be on break for Thanksgiving, they are hoping to continue their successful season at the tournament at Metea Valley High School on Dec. 5.
Keep a look out for York’s speech team this winter as they continue to do great things!
