Mortal Kombat X introduces Tri-Borg, AKA robot-cubed

Warning: This goes without saying, that this article contains one of the bloodiest ways to go in “Mortal Kombat” history– don’t blame me if you can’t sleep at night.

The ESL (Electronic Sports League) is like the Super Bowl for Mortal Kombat X players. Gamers and bloodhounds from different backgrounds compete to win a massive cash prize of $60,000 and the undying respect of the crowd.

It’s also where Tri-Borg, whose name brings to mind a metal band, was also given a test run.

His Sektor variation, known as LK9T9, gives him all of the typical Sektor moves, from rockets to flamethrowers to pulse palms.

In fact, the startup to his X-Ray (the bone breaking super moves of the last two games) is reminiscent of his Mortal Kombat 9 (MK9) start up.

His Cyrax Variation, LK4D4, gives Tri-Borg access to Cyrax’s favorite pieces of weaponry, ranging from nets to bombs to buzz saws and even his MK9 X-ray startup, but it doesn’t have the sit out pile driver.

Oh well, no use losing sleep over petty details.

His smoke variation, LK712, gives him all the tridents, smoke balls, and air throws you can handle, and about the tridents in question, they’re electrified. His X-Ray startup is more of a high risk, high reward kind of deal.

Surprise surprise, he’s got a hidden fourth variation: LK520. Also known as Cyber Sub-Zero, it gives our mechanical friend ice bombs and ice balls. Sadly, we didn’t get to see much game play, but it’s still good to know.

His X-Ray has him tossing his head at the opponent, fracturing the skull. If that wasn’t bad enough, he then rams into his opponent’s chest, fracturing their ribs.

If this isn’t enough (and trust me, it’s not), he does an Izuna drop– a maneuver that involves lifting the guy on the wrong end up– and bringing them down while spinning like the business end of a power drill, breaking the neck.

Also, his brutality, which is weirdly called friendship, involves him straight up having one of his three clones uppercut his unlucky enemy in half.

There’s also Death Machine, which sounds horrifically bloody, and it is. It pretty much works like this:

Take Sektor’s compressor fatality from the third Mortal Kombat game. You know, the one where he gets out a gigantic compressor from his chest cavity and flatten them like a pancake?

Then turn it into a gut eviscerating death press from a medieval depiction of your nightmares by adding a pair of razor sharp tridents (that belong to our good friend Smoke) and a buzz saw (which belongs to Cyrax).

After the tridents pull the opponent towards the machine, they start to whirl like a blender. While Tri-Borg is carving out his opponent’s internal organs, the press starts going down on the opponent before crushing them and popping out a cube of meat, like a SKYNET infused Wall-E.

Ouch doesn’t even cut it…Tri-borg boots up on March 1, 2016.
