Lollapalooza Review

 Lollapalooza Review

What started on August 2nd and ended on August 4th this past summer? Only the best musical festival in the Midwest. This year’s Lollapalooza was a success, selling out completely in 90 minutes. The festival got favorable reviews, as Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune reported it was “the biggest Lollapalooza ever.”

While the York-hi was unable to locate the exact count of how many York students were in Grant Park the weekend of August 2nd – 4th, it’s safe to assume the number is over one hundred.

“On a scale of one to ten, I would give this year’s Lollapalooza an Eight or Nine,” junior George Baughman said. “The weather was nice, and the acts were good.”

Headliners included Phoenix, The Cure, Mumford and Sons, The Killers, and Kendrick Lamar.

“Phoenix was the best.” Baughman said. “Their show was extraordinary.”

Other York students thought otherwise:

“The Orwells put on the best show,” junior Anthony Todd said. The Orwells are a critically acclaimed group of York graduates.

Out of the three days, the final day was Baughman’s favorite.

“Sunday was the best, because of Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, The Orwells, and Two Door Cinema Club,” Baughman said.

A lot of people said the reason they didn’t go to Lollapalooza was because of the commute. Baughman said the best route of transportation to Grant Park, (where Lollapalooza is held), is the train.

“I took the train. It was definitely the best option, despite the train being crowded, it was definitely the most efficiant way of getting from Elmhurst to Chicago,” Baughman said.

At Lollapalooza, they sold water in boxes, which got praise from several Lollapalooza visitors.

“The boxed water was a really good idea, seems stupid, but it helps the environment and saves waste. Plus they had stations in Grant Park where you could fill up your boxes for free,” Baughman said.

Lollapalooza is highly anticipated each summer, and next summer should be no different.

“I would love to see The Strokes or The Pixies at Lollapalooza,” Todd said.

For anyone pondering going to Lollapalooza next year, Baughman said you will not regret going.

“Go with a group, have fun, get the most out of the days you go. See as many acts as you can and get your money’s worth.” Baughman said.
