During the 2011 season, Charlie Rose played for York’s sophomore football team. During what would be just another Friday night football game, Rose was called upon to suit up when senior quarterback, Joe Luca, got injured. Rose was then needed to change into his uniform to be the backup to the backup.
“That’s a funny story,” said Rose, now the starting senior quarterback. “I was sitting in the bleachers with my friends just eating a hot dog when people started tapping my shoulder saying ‘look!’ I looked down and one of the coaches was calling my name to go down for the varsity game.”
Now, Rose has stepped up to the leadership position for the York Dukes over the past two years.
“[Leadership comes] with the position I play. I have to be able to control my guys and make sure we’re on the same page, but also, be able to hear out what they say and see all aspects of the play.”
Rose has come a long way since his days of watching in the bleachers. But, he remembers that moment with a laugh.
“I actually dropped my hotdog on the ground and jogged down the bleachers. It was such a cool experience hearing the whole school call your name.”
