Fun fall festivities

Being that we have quickly been immersed into the fall season, many people are wondering what fun fall activities may be in store for them. Among the many things in the Chicago-land area to do this fall, the York-hi has come up with the top seven places to visit this fall.

Statesville Haunted Prison

This haunted prison is inspired by the real Stateville correctional center located in central Illinois. Stateville Correctional Center is a maximum security prison that opened in 1925 and has held various notable criminals such as John Wayne Gacy who was executed at the Prison. Now, located less than five miles away from the correctional center, is a haunted house created to be a haunted prison. Reviews say it is one of the scariest experiences ever and that everyone must go.

Jonamac Orchard’s Corn Maze

Since 1984, the Jonamac Orchard has provided apple picking, hay rides, and so many other fun fall activities; however, their most famous attraction is their corn maze. This year’s design is sponsored by Culver’s. The maze is designed on 10 acres of land, includes three miles of pathways, and two bridges. On Friday and Saturday Nights in October, the corn maze turns haunted. Clowns, chainsaws, and other scary features are added to the maze.

Disturbia Screams in the Park

Located in MB Financial Park in Rosemont, this interactive horror experience takes you through the lower level of a parking garage where 35 interactive rooms of horror are set up. Features inside the haunted rooms include the “sewers of the underworld” and the “dark swamp”.

Highwood Pumpkin Festival

The 7th annual Pumpkin Festival attempts every year to break the world record for most pumpkins lit at one time in one place. All weekend long you can carve pumpkins, take hay rides, listen to live music located on two stages, and eat endless food and beverage options provided by local food vendors.

Not intended for anyone under the age of 16, this horror experience has been consistently voted Illinois’ best haunted house for years according to hauntedillinois.com and hauntedhousechicago.com. From the moment you enter the parking lot, the scares begin and they do not end until you leave.

This festival has been held in St. Charles for over 30 years. It is most known for is handmade scarecrow contest; however, in addition to the contest, there is constant live entertainment, games, petting zoo, and fall foods and drinks.
