On Sat. Nov. 5, seven of the York Boys Cross Country runners represented York at the state final in Peoria, IL at Detweiller Park. As a team, the boys came in 16th place in the 3A division. As for the individuals, they placed the following:

Charlie Kern, junior: 4th place (14:12)

Sean MacGregor, junior: 10th place (14:36)

Ethan Kern, freshman: 134th place

Daniel Honquest, junior: 146th place

Jackson Bode, junior: 162nd place

Liam Hill, senior: 195th place

Joe Evely, junior: 205th place

With the season coming to an end, the runners and coaches are encountering a major change for their next season: Head Coach Joe Newton is retiring after coaching at York for 60 years. Coach Newton led York to 28 state championship titles throughout his coaching career. Even though Coach Newton is leaving, his legacy and encouraging words will live on forever at York.

“If you work hard, you’ve got a chance to make something of yourself,” said Coach Newton. “Always love what you do.”
