Something to Learn from 2016: Positivity
As the new year begins, we as a society reflect on the year before. The overall consensus was the following: the WORST year EVER. It’s not just me that felt this way, there are countless internet posts that have said 2016 was the worst year ever.
Many loved celebrities passed away this year: Prince, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, George Michael, and Carrie Fisher, to name a few. There was an awful shooting that took place in Pulse Nightclub. It was the worst recorded mass shooting in US History (NPR). Britain left the EU, causing the biggest economic crash since the Great Depression.
According to a blog on economic collapse, European banks lost 23% of their value. US magazine wrote that the power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie broke up after having 6 kids and being together for a decade, crushing our idea of love altogether. Oh! Almost forgot: the election. (huffingtonpost.com)
With all this negativity throughout the year, it’s almost impossible to figure out even one positive thing happened this year. And this is what we can learn from 2016: positivity.
There are a lot of great things that happened this year. Pandas aren’t endangered anymore. The tiger population increased for the first time in 100 years, and Beyonce came out with her
new album titled Lemonade. Leonardo DiCaprio finally won his Oscar after 22 years of nomination after nomination. Not to mention, the “lovable losers,” of our home team, Chicago, WON the World Series for the 1st time in 108 years.
Find the positivity. Maybe this is the year you just started high school, maybe this is your last year, maybe you got a new dog, or maybe you dyed your hair. It could be anything.
The year 2016 has taught us to look for the light, even though it may seem dark.
Don’t look back on 2016 as a year of disdain. Look at it and say, “that’s the year I learned to be positive.”
