La Brigade had their annual Halloween luncheon, Fri., Oct. 27. This year the restaurant created their very own “Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry”, with a “Harry Potter” theme. The menu was chosen to represent a traditional English menu, like the characters would have eaten while at school.

“We served an onion soup with a shepherd’s pie and butterbeer cupcakes,” said senior Cristian Hernandez. “We also made butterbeer as a drink for guests.”

Normally luncheons are only open for two periods, but this week the luncheon was open for three periods, adding a lot of more people to the reservation list. The total number of attendants was around 100, many more than the staff is used to.

“It was very stressful having an extra period,” said senior Jenna Gallichio. “The time between the periods seemed to go by so fast, but I think we handled it very well,”

The staff had to come together as one to be able to pull off this big luncheon. Communication and teamwork are crucial for smooth luncheon, especially when it such a big one.

“I saw a lot of good teamwork today,” said food and restaurant management teacher Mrs. Albert. “And the staff was able to stay on track for all three periods, which is very important for such a big luncheon.”

While the week prior to the luncheon is mostly for food preparation, the staff also spent time decorating the restaurant. The tables were set to represent the individual houses that the students live in at Hogwarts.

“We had a table for Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, and the professors,” said senior Kevin Homan. “It was definitely a magical day.”

Overall the luncheon was a huge success, and the staff had so much fun planning and doing the luncheon. This is one that the class will talk about forever.

“This group of people is a lot of fun to be around, and we are really starting to feel like a kitchen family!” said senior Ally Geary. “It was definitely a luncheon to remember.”
