York’s annual Fine Arts Week began today as soon as the first hour bell rang through the hallways. Speech Team marked the start of it all with their vibrant and touching performances and will be followed by shows and presentations  that are equally as exciting.

FAW has a goal of providing something new and special to York students every year. This year, a new panel of MCs are lined up to take the stage for the talent shows that will be running throughout the week during the school day and for one final hoorah Thursday evening. Seniors Eileen King and Kevin Homan, joined by junior David Hansen, have been working tirelessly on their skits and jokes they plan to treat the audience with in between the acts.

“I feel like I can bring a lot more to the stage than I did in previous years” said Homan, as he scribbled in annotations on the talent show lineup. This is the crew’s first year taking on this kind of position, and they’re determined that their material is bound to bring a smile on everyone’s faces.

“A lot of our jokes are more interactive with the audience with a mix of some slapstick comedy” said King, whose face will be familiar from YTV and the copious amount of plays she’s held a role in. According to Hansen, their material will be focused on pop culture jokes and popular memes that have been shared over social media.

When asked about their favorite jokes that they have prepared, Hansen swiftly answered, “you’ll just have to wait and see.”
