Water you doing with that squirt gun?

The seniors are ending their last 30 days of school with a game of Assassin. This game is a student-run game where the seniors that choose to participate get a target and have to “assassinate” their target with a water or nerf gun. The players can’t get their target at school or at the target’s home, unless invited in.

Senior Elena Vezmar took charge in starting the game. There were a lot of people talking about starting the game, so she stepped up because she wanted to carry on the tradition. It took a few weeks to get the game set up and running smoothly, but it wasn’t as easy as she and others anticipated it would be.

“It definitely wasn’t easy to plan assassin,” Vezmar said. “There are multiple ways to play assassin and so many different people were giving me different suggestions and it was hard to please everyone. Since this is also an outside of school event, it is even harder to plan because it isn’t something York Stuco helps plans.

Elena isn’t working alone though, thankfully she got some help from senior Martha Eaten during the process of assigning each person their target.

“Elena volunteered to start it and a few days later I was talking to her about it at practice and I offered to write the rules and help her keep track of things,” Eaten said. “The hardest part was trying to please everyone and adding as many components as possible that people wanted.”

Once the game was started and players were assigned the war began. Zorian Schiffman, senior, was the first to make a move. He got senior Jackie Meyer the day after assignments in the morning on her front lawn. He made strategic decisions in order to “assassinate” his target.

“Never underestimate your opponent, always stay one step ahead of your opponent, and don’t form habits that can be observed,” Schiffman said. “I never leave the house without one of my guns for defense. I trust all my friends but I carry the gun just in case because I would never want to lose in such a petty way as to be killed by one of my friends.”

Schiffman utilizes some extreme tactics with a goal of coming out of the game as the winner. While Schiffman’s strategies are to the extreme, many other seniors have different tactics to get their assigned target.

The most impressive assassin so far is Ally Foley. She has already “assassinated” four people during the first round and is prepared for the more targets she has to come. She uses very sneaky and well thought out strategies to track down each target.

“The strategies I used were just talking with my targets friends about good places to meet up and hide, or texting their mom to let us in the house.” Foley said.

Utilizing opponents friends is key to getting a target’s exact location. Many others have used similar strategies to “assassinate” their opponent but not all players are as on top of it.

There is still a fairly large amount of people left, as this is only the beginning of round two. Now, the players still left have new targets to conquer. As the pool of people get smaller, the game gets more and more riveting. Stay tuned for the next update on Assassin.
