Where are the cookies?
Walking into the cafe and seeing York’s beloved cookies gone this year was a hard hit for all students. Alumni, staff and current students are baffled by the multitude of food changes this year.
The most crucial question on student’s minds: where are the cookies?
“In general the changes that have been made this year are mainly to ala carte items such as chips and snacks, cookies, Pop-tarts, etc.,” said Andrew Fidone, York High School’s Food Services Manager.
“We’ve been following the USDA mandated guidelines for quite a while regarding whole grains, portions, etc., in the last few years, so that the changes would be gradual,” Fidone said.
The school is required to follow these federal guidelines to manage student health, in keeping with the federal government’s push for healthy lunches.
“Well, I’ll miss those cookies. I guess Michelle Obama wins for now,” Kristen Buffo, a senior at York, said.
Although the loss of cookies is upsetting to us all, on the bright side, most food items have lowered in price.
The tragic loss of the cookies may be difficult for some students to swallow.
