The Math Lab’s surprising history
Do you know the official name of the Math Lab? How about when it was established and who established it?
There’s a lot of things that people don’t know about the Math Lab despite visiting A263 at least once. Here are a couple of interesting facts that people don’t know:
- The Math Lab’s actual name is the Thomas H. Nelson Lab.
- It was named after the former and beloved Math Department Chair, Thomas H. Nelson.
- Nelson taught from 1965-1991 (and even taught some of our alumni teachers!).
- The Math Lab existed even before York was renovated.
- The old Math Lab was half the size of the current Math Lab.
- The Math Lab is now open Monday-Friday from 7:00PM -4:15PM
- It used to be closed on Fridays but due to the increase of students seeking help they extended the days.
- The Math Lab gives out awards to seniors every spring to recognize them for not just helping themselves improve, but also other students and teachers.
- The award is called the Del Meitz Thomas Nelson Award–they even give some scholarship money for the award.
