York students share crazy Black Friday stories

“It was black Friday and naturally since I got up crazy early to go shopping, I was really tired. I went to Macy’s and me and my two friends fell asleep in two of the beds in Macy’s, and we were woken up by this woman, who asked to take a picture of us with my phone—not her’s—mine. It was really awkward and uncomfortable.” –Darcy Kummerow, junior

Possibly the craziest tradition around holiday time, Black Friday, is the one day a year when every store puts on huge sales. The results? Crazy customers and crazy stories. We asked York students for their best Black Friday experiences, and here they are!

“I was at Walmart with my cousin at around 2:15am on Black Friday. There was a sale on TVs and two older women (one very short and one very tall) were fighting over who should get the last on-sale TV. The tall women shouted, “Check the cameras! Who came in the store first?” The shorter lady hit her with her purse. Then the tall lady pushed her shoulders back when a Walmart worker came over and took them both away. Neither got the TV.” -Casey Delury, junior

“My mom wears this shirt that says “shop like you mean it” and wears war paint… she gets really into it.” –Kailtin Cadigan, junior

“We go to Menards every year; they go HAM. Let me tell you, Black Friday at Menards is weird. If you want something at Menards, go there on black Friday, but be prepared because people get kinda scary. We brought our grandmother there once and we had to hide her in a corner because we were afraid people were gonna like, kill her. It was really scary.”
