Boys, Girls Lax teams vying for successful seasons

The York boys lacrosse team is kicking off what looks to be a very successful season. With strong victories in their preseason tournament against both Bartlett and Fremd to win the tournament, the team is starting off strong.

The boys decisively beat Glenbard West 11-5 at their home opener and have a impressive early season record of 6-1.

“We’re looking forward to a successful season.” Said senior Sam Rivera.

Although still early in the season, the team has several key players such as juniors Cam Dobrotka and Kenny Sidoryk off the field and unable to play because of injury. The team has not let these injuries affect them.

“ We have had to overcome a couple of big injuries early, but the team has responded very well.” said coach Canfield. “I feel like this team has the most depth of any team I have coached at York, so we have relied on guys to step up. It has been a good experience watching new players step into important roles early on and perform very well.”

The team is also confident in themselves early in the season.

“We’re doing pretty well right now, we’ve only lost one game.” said junior Matt Wozny.  “Although we have had a lot of close wins, we’re all really coming together as a team and rallying to win.”

The boys are determined to keep up and continue their success for the rest of the season.

York’s girls lacrosse team has accomplished similar success early this season with a very impressive 5-0 record; the team is also expecting a strong season.

“We’re a team that is better together than we are apart,” said junior Katie Toohey.

With York’s girls lacrosse and boys lacrosse experiencing lots of success this spring is shaping up to be exciting for York lacrosse.
