York Dance Company presents: Spring Showing 2015

YDC member Amelia Chaltin’s choreographed piece Flare by Sergio Mendes & Brasil ’66

On Tues. May 5, YDC presented the 2015 Spring Showing hosted by dance instructor Michelle Scurlock Jensen and was preformed by YDC and Jensen’s Advanced Dance Class.

Throughout the show, Jensen introduced the pieces by providing some background. She also gave a special thanks to everyone involved in the production.

The showing began with YDC choreographer Maria Conversa’s piece called Picking Up the Pieces by Ed Sheeran.

Next, Hannah Widmaier from YDC choreographed Some Nights by FUN. Afterwards, Janae Nutter choreographed Jasmine Thompson’s song Mad World while incorporating sign language.

Later on, Jensen’s Advanced Dance Class performed a sassy Broadway song called Sing! Sing! Sing!

After Sing! Sing! Sing!, the choreographing duo Anna Hubert and Andrea Zurlo presented Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Lorde.

Is There Somewhere by Halsey was next which was choreographed by Tarryn Becker and Christine Millins. Laurel Tompos’s choreographed piece titled Ship to the Shore by REO Speed Wagon followed afterwards.

Amelia Chaltin from YDC choreographed Flare by Sergio Mendes & Brasil ’66 later followed by Darcy Kummerow’s choreographed piece Evolution of the Night with music selections from West Side Story and Chicago.

The Spring Showing closed with the multiculturally themed Fusion Dance by Enur and Vishal Dadlani which was choreographed by Geeva George and Jessica Magday.

“It was really good; I liked it,” said junior Kayla Arroyo after seeing the performance.

“It had a lot of variety,” added junior Caroline Stasica, one of the videographers for the Spring Showing.
