Sweet Home Chicago

York’s Student Council decorated the school the Sunday before Homecoming week.

York Community High School’s homecoming will be celebrated on September 19th this year. The dance will start at 7 o’clock, and the doors will close to entering students at 8. Tickets are $20 at the bookstore and $25 at the door.

This year, the theme is one York has never seen before. After much deliberation, the Student Council decided to pay homage to York’s home city.

Student Council member Lauren Aloia said, “we brainstormed a bunch of ideas and voted on the one with the most potential.”

“Sweet Home Chicago” received the most votes, and Student Council is taking this theme to heart. Their plans to decorate for the dance are elaborate.

“We decorated with a lot of the sports teams, famous Chicago restaurants, and other Chicago trademarks,” said Aloia.

Not only are they using the decorations to give the dance the “Chicago” spirit, the food is going to be authentic.

“The lunch room is going to be serving Chicago style food,” said Aloia. “Everything from the decor to the food is going to be about our city.”

If dancing or eating isn’t something you’re interested in, there are other options as well.

“There will be two photo booths in the common area,” said Aloia. “There will also be tables for you and your friends to sit down at during the dance.”

Student Council remains optimistic that the dance is going to be one of the best ones yet.

“There’s going to be great decorations and photo ops,” said Aloia. “It’s in the field house again so it will be 10x less sweaty than the lunch room. What more do you need to know?”

Student Council has remained secretive on what else the dance is going to entail.

“You’ll have to just come to the dance to see for yourself,” said Aloia.
