New teacher Justin Olson joins the York community
This year, District 205 has employed several new faculty members. Teachers and other employees have joined the staff across the schools, and with great pleasure, the district welcomes Justin Olson.
Hired as District 205’s new vocational coordinator at the Transition Center for 18-21-year-old students with disabilities, his role in the community is to work with the men and women who belong to this center and help them acquire the skills they need to assist them in transitioning into the real world.
“Growing up, I always felt a connection to this line of work, ” Olson said. “As a middle school student, I was asked to give one on one support to a special needs peer; I instantly felt a connection. A couple years later, I became a camp counselor at a camp for the disabled, Camp Shiloh, in Rockford, Illinois. From there on out, I’ve has been working in the field.”
Before York, Olson worked at many other institutions such as the Kendall County Special Ed Cooperative, Winnebago Special Ed Cooperative, and Northern Illinois University.
When the job offer to work at York emerged, Olson jumped at the opportunity.
“My wife and I recently moved to Arlington Heights, so when I saw York pop up while looking for a job closer to home, I immediately applied,” Olsen said. “My grandma was a librarian here at York, and she absolutely loved it, so I knew it would be a good fit.”
Olson is loving his time at York so far, and can’t wait for what’s to come.
