A graduate of Illinois State University, Allison Aupperle joined the York family this year in the foreign language department teaching Spanish. Aupperle taught in Dunlap School District, a small district about 150 miles west of Elmhurst before coming to York.

While Aupperle has studied and worked abroad in Mexico, the opportunity to come to York was exactly the type of new exciting journey and challenge she was looking for.

“The school I worked at previously was smaller by about 1000 students,” said Aupperle. “I would have to say it was a bit of a culture shock to come from growing up in a town where the population is less than the student population at York.”

Despite the differences between York and her hometown, Aupperle remains optimistic about what’s in store for her.

“I was most excited to work in a bigger department and to learn from a bigger group of other language teachers,” said Aupperle.

As she gets to know her new school and new city, Aupperle looks forward to getting more involved in all that York has to offer.

“I have a desire to get involved with the girls cross country tea. I was able to volunteer a couple days a week and attend a few meets during the season,” said Aupperle.

Aupperle enjoys running and teaching swimming lessons in her free time, and her passion for athletics is contagious.

“I loved the days Coach Aupperle worked with us,” said Senior cross country runner Abbey Templeman. “Having her at the meets was especially helpful. Her bright attitude always helped me push myself harder. It’s always nice to see a friendly face on the course.”

Aupperle also sees herself getting more involved in either International Club or Spanish Club moving forward.

Not only is Aupperle excited to become more involved in extracurriculars, she looks forward to perfecting her teaching style. As of right now, she takes an innovative approach in her technique.

“I focus on getting my students to be able to understand and communicate,” said Aupperle. “I try to form authentic conversations within the classroom that could easily occur outside the classroom”.

With so many great things happening at York, Aupperle is excited for her future involvement in the building of the diverse opportunities offered at York.

Please welcome Ms. Aupperle to the York family.
