Duke pride takes over the hallways at York
With Homecoming week coming to a close, the annual hallway decorating contest showcases the creative efforts of student involvement.
The various clubs and sports here at York create a total transformation of our school as each one takes over space on the walls, windows, and ceiling. As the hallways transform into elaborate scenes full of detail, students have the opportunity to vote for their personal favorite and reward the hard work of the club members or athletes.
Congratulations to the winners:
While not everyone was a winner, the clubs and teams worked together to get school spirit amped up for the homecoming game and dance.
“It was really a cool idea to give the students a chance to get in here, get this place looking sharp, while trying to build as much spirit as they can,” said Campus Supervisor Mr. Egan.
Not only does this spark up the spirit in the students, it also sparks up competition between the clubs and sports to make the most incredible hallway in order to get the W.
“French club is definitely going to win the hallway decorating competition this year, because we have a lot of incredibly dedicated and enthusiastic members who have been preparing for this event for weeks,” says Madame Wyffles, one of the French Club leaders.
Some clubs have the reputation of going all out on their hallway decorations and are always runner ups to win the contest.
“I think the volleyball or swim hallway is always really cool,” said Sarah Wagner, senior. “I love how they put paper over the lights so that it changes the lighting and transforms the whole hallway.”
Last year, the Latina Dreamers’ girls took 1st place in the contest, and students this year think they have a chance again.
“Latina Dreamers will win this year because what they have up already seems great and they won last year,” says Zack Wilbur, senior.
No matter who wins, it is a great thing to see all after-school activities come together and show their hard work in such a creative way.
“It is cool when they finally get everything settled and you can see how the school looks at the end,” said Campus Supervisor Mr. Egan.
