York students begin May with a variety of in-person and virtual events. Senior Jenna Hughes prepared for a free position shot in the game against New Trier on Monday. The Varsity Girls Lacrosse Team played an amazing game against the 2018 state champions in a game that ended with the final score being nine goals for York and 10 goals for New Trier.

The Pep Band performs at last weeks football game. After a year of not performing, the York Marching Band is more excited than ever to perform at football games and future events. I am thankful for the amazing community that the York Marching Band is, freshman Isabella Pingel said. Those have been the times when I have really gotten to know people and have made memories that will last which is what really matters.

Members of the bands Yolkdrop and Brainstorm performed on the auditorium stage on Friday during sixth period, which was streamed on YouTube Live. Their performance marks the first of this year’s “Fine Arts Month”, a celebration of the arts to last the duration of March. Many of the members of both bands are York alums.

Seniors Katie Reidinger, Anthony Poli, and Jackson Nehls performed in the auditorium on Wednesday afternoon on the York Album Project Instagram account (@yorkalbumproject) to both promote both York Live, which will be broadcast at the end of March, and Fine Arts Month, which will feature lots of different guest artists, performers, and musicians throughout the month of March.

York Basketball takes practice into their own hands after the news of possibly missing out on the 2020-2021 season. Senior Tyler Olsen hosted workouts and scrimmages for the team throughout the week. It is important to stay connected as a team and keep working in case we are lucky to have a season, said Olsen

Right now with COVID, it can be extremely hard to feel like you have a voice in the community, Fujiwara said. However, each person has the ability to create something that will brighten someone’s day, and that is why I encourage everyone who can to go outside and participate in the chalk drawings.
