York’s football team tackles new season

You can’t take the eyes off the green field in front of you. You’re on the edge of your seat. A few seconds later, all you hear is screaming.

Touchdown.

This year, the York Football team has had many of those dramatic moments. Fans have packed the stands as everyone is expecting an improvement for this season, which has already started off on a great note, as they are 2-0 after the first two battles.

“I have a really good feeling about the team this year.” Nicolle Szilagyi, senior, said.

But even before this year excitement was building as a result of the new coach. Along with new Head Coach Matt Monken, it almost seems like there is a new team, and they have new uniforms to go with it.

The sophomore team last year had an excellent season; and of course, many of the past season’s squad now has large roles on the Varsity team. Players have said that the new coaching has been a phenomenal change for the program.
Naturally students equally excited.

“We have a great group of fans who are dedicated and I think we can really revive the spirit here at York,” Senior Liam McFarlane said. “The fans are really dependent on the teams success, and the boys will feed off our energy.”

This senior class is more involved than ever.

“If we can spread all the classes throughout the crowd evenly, hopefully the shy underclassman will be encouraged by enthusiasm of the upperclassman.”

From cheers and chants to tailgates and delicious Southtown hot dogs, this is year is predicted to be the best one yet. Football games are a great way to come together as a community and support our team.
