The York Girls Badminton team placed ninth overall in their state meet over the weekend of May 12 with doubles team Sasha Neidigh, junior, and Lindsey White, sophomore, placing third.

“It took a ton of training and hard work on and off season to get to state. There were many days leading up to state where we went to school practice for an hour and a half and then another hour and a half after at Victory Badminton. In the end it was worth it because all of our hours in the gym paid off,” said Neidigh.

As Neidigh’s first time at state she is very proud of her and Whites’ performance, but both girls are ready to come back stronger than ever next season and place even higher in their doubles teams competition.

“I felt so proud and lucky to get to go to state this year because it was my first time and I was confident that Lindsey and I could do well,” said Neidigh. “I was really happy with our performance and I think that last day of state was some of the best badminton we had played all season. Next season I am looking forward to coming back as an even stronger doubles team and our goal for next year is getting first at state.”

Neidigh and White weren’t the only hard workers though; the entire team that went to state worked hard to secure their spot and had fun doing it regardless of their standings, according to sophomore Ella Glosner.

“Going to state as a team was really fun and definitely brought a lot of us closer together. It was also rewarding as an ending to our great season,” Glosner said.

Each team member was a part of the team’s journey to state even if they didn’t participate in the meet. The entire badminton team showed support to each other throughout the season and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

“I’m really proud of how the team came together this season to support each other and cheer each other on every day. I wouldn’t be where I am without the encouragement of all my amazing teammates and coaches,” said White.
