Sports Profile: Matt Plowman Cross Country/Track

During his tenure as York’s Cross Country (and for a long time, track) head coach, Joe Newton has produced several athletes each decade that have the discipline and aptitude for running necessary to become a Division I athlete. Out of this years senior class, Matt Plowman stands. A one time state champion in both Cross Country and Track, Plowman was talented from the beginning. As Newton motivated his team and ushered success, it was assistant coach Jim Hedman who was Plowman’s biggest role model.

“Coach Hedman has been pushing me to become better on and off the track since I first got to York. I would not be where I am today without him,” said Plowman.

As a result of Plowman’s decorated career as a Duke, he has the opportunity to run in the highly-touted Big Ten conference next year as a member of the University of Michigan’s Cross Country and Track teams.

“I’m extremely excited to able to compete at the University of Michigan. It has been a dream of mine since I was in elementary school,” said Plowman.plowman 3 profile3a
