Fine Arts Week just ended. With spectacles ranging from the Talent Show and the Jazz Ensemble, to the Yorkettes and the Art Fair, the festivities put York into a great mood and showcased the wide variety of talent held by the student body.

On Friday, the York-hi interviewed both performers, members of the production crew, and the mastermind of Fine Arts Week, Mr. Gemkow. Here’s what they had to say.

Q: What’s the best part about Fine Arts Week?

A: Having the ability to work with all these really talented people, and using my talents to help them express theirs. -Cody Pawlowski, senior and member of the production crew

A: All the performers help you appreciate arts other than your own. -Kais Ali, senior and A Capella choir member

A: Giving students the opportunity to express themselves in so many different ways where they can demonstrate all the things they do, and being the person who gets it moving so others can enjoy it. -Mr. Gemkow

Q: When did FAW start, and when did you begin leading the event?

A: It began in the mid-80’s. My first year was in 2009.

Q: How many people participate in the Fine Arts Week festivites?

A: The talent shows alone had over 150 combined. Total, probably over 400.

Q: Where is FAW going?

A: We’re continuing to focus on student performances, but we always try to have at least 1 featured professional artist.
