Kicking off the 2014-2015 drama season is “Midsummer/Jersey,” a hilarious play based on William Shakespeare’s classic romantic comedy “Midsummer Night’s Dream” and the infamous reality TV show Jersey Shore. This play opened Thursday, October 23rd and ran through Sunday, October 26th.

“Scene by scene ‘Midsummer/Jersey’ is the same as ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream,’ except that the dialogue, characters, and setting are updated and placed in New Jersey instead of Greece,” Drama Director Mr. Forsythe said.

“Major themes taken on by this play were love and how the people that you think you should end up with are not always the best match in the end,” said Mr. Forsythe.

Setting up a play is hard work, and it can really affect the cast in many ways. Yet, this does not hinder the cast’s belief that the play will be a success.

“We are very confident in ‘Midsummer/Jersey,” said cast members Monica Medina and Kaitlin Cadagin (both Juniors).

Something very interesting about Midsummer/Jersey is that York teacher Ms. Bode is actually acting in the play.

“At first I was really nervous getting involved into this play, but everyone involved in this play were friendly to me and inviting, and Mr. Forsythe has helped me with anything I have had problems with,” said Ms. Bode.

“Midsummer/Jersey” was a play almost anyone could like because it is much more accessible compared to the Shakespearean counterpart because it covers material that is contemporary to our time rather than 16th century Greece.

This play was amazing, and definitely lived up to York Drama’s prestigious reputation. If the audience was not laughing out loud, it was seriously thinking about who they think should really be their soul mate.
