Speech season heading into home stretch

This year, York’s speech team transitioned from longtime head coach Mr. Martin to Mrs. Gwizdala. Along with this change came the aftermath of having four state-qualifying speakers graduate. Despite these losses, much optimism surrounds the team as they head into the state meet series.

“The transition from Coach Martin to Mrs. Gwizdala has been very different, it was really sad but things are still running well throughout the team,” Morgan Taylor, sophomore, said.

Although the losses of last years’ seniors seem difficult to overcome, the team is coping well with lots of good effort from the underclassmen make a good future for the team easy to envision.

“The most consistent speakers have been Alice Bernard, Katie Riek, Ryan Doyle and I,” Taylor said. “Many more are coming around and are improving every week.”
